Thursday Thoughts 3/26/09

"The church has been trying to preach morality and ethics without the Gospel as a basis; it has been preaching morality without godliness, and it simply does not work."

"...by palliating the symptoms you can conceal the real disease." (This reminds me of John Bunyan's discourse in Grace Abounding about relieving people's guilt without addressing the cause of their guilt - namely, sin).

"Man's real trouble is that he is a rebel against God and consequently under the wrath of God."

The above quotes are from Martin Lloyd-Jones' Preaching and Preachers. I find that I'm just unable to write more about the ideas expressed above, as I intended to. My capacity for coherent thought is being limited these days by a preoccupation with an upcoming FDIC audit of the financial institution I work for. Maybe I can elaborate on this stuff in a few weeks.
